Ben Folds Concert

Adam, my boyfriend of almost four years, and I have very different taste in music. He's into ska while I'm into pop, yet we both agree that Ben Folds is our favorite piano rocker. On Monday night, we had the privilege of seeing him live in concert. We'd seen him once before, touring with John Mayer, but this was my very first clubbing experience.

We arrived early enough to snag a prime spot on the second floor balcony over-looking the stage. Surprisingly, his opening act was the Carnegie Mellon Glee Club! Apparently, Ben Folds had a contest for college A Capella groups to sing before his shows. When the man himself finally appeared on stage, Adam and I were dismayed to discover a giant pole was blocking our view of the piano! Since we could only see Ben's shadow, we spent most of the concert watching the other band members, especially this guy who played everything from a marching snare drum to the french horn. Despite our obstructed view, we enjoyed Ben's renditions of our favorite songs, included "Landed" and "Brick."
