I'll let you in on a little secret. Despite my love of sweet tea and Mexican food, I am actually Canadian. I have lived in Texas for almost my whole life, but my relatives live in Canada. Last week, Adam and I went to visit my grandparents in Ottawa. My grandparents are pretty awesome. My grandfather has a PhD in physics and he worked at the National Research Council for his entire career. My grandmother is an amazing cook and has the cleanest, most organized home I've ever seen.
Adam and I arrived Tuesday evening, after taking three separate planes. On Wednesday, we took a tour of Parliament.
We went all the way up to that clock tower with the green roof, or the Peace Tower. It had a beautiful view of Ottawa.
Then we had lunch at the Byward Market. We are old enough to drink in Canada {it's only 19 there} so we ordered our first legal drinks! Adam got a beer and I got a strawberry daiquiri, which didn't taste like alcohol at all.
The next day, we went to the Museum of Canadian Civilization. Look at those totem poles!
What a pretty ceiling! The museum had exhibits about the First Peoples {what we call Native Americans} and how the British & French settled Canada.
That evening, my grandparents took us to the Greek Festival for dinner. Yum!
On Friday, we had planned to go canoeing on the Rideau Canal. But it rained. So we made our now-famous Key Lime Pie for family dinner. When we went to the grocery store for supplies, we discovered that milk was sold in giant plastic bags. Those silly Canadians!
Adam and I had a blast playing with my two littlest cousins, Masyn and Abbi, at family dinner. They are so adorable!
Basically, we had a pretty awesome trip. Now I'm back in Pittsburgh. Stay tuned for pictures of my dorm room!
