Split Pea Soup

This weekend was my first experience cooking for a large group of people, all with different tastes. By large, I mean seven. But when you don't even have seven chairs, that seems like a lot! I served this for dinner on Friday night.

Split Pea Soup

Split Pea Soup
{From Adam's Mom}

Ingredients:
1 pound green split peas
1 ham steak
1 onion, diced
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon marjoram
1 cup diced celery
1 cup diced carrots

Directions:
1. Rinse peas. Combine with two quarts water, ham, onion, salt, pepper and marjoram.
2. Bring to boiling. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer for one and a half hours.
3. Add celery and carrots. Cook uncovered for thirty minutes. Serves six to eight.

We just had store-bought garlic bread with the soup. On Saturday night, we had chicken pot pie {an even easier recipe, if you can believe it!} and salad.

P.S. Sorry for the kinda gross picture. I felt weird taking pictures of the food all prepared with our guests here!
