Besides the usual manners rules, my mom taught us to always, always write thank-you notes and to always, always bring a hostess gift. So, we try to never show up empty handed unless, come to think of it, we're staying with our parents. Whoops.
I knew Alex really likes pumpkin bread, so I whipped some up to bring with us to Indiana. The recipe just happened to make two loaves, so we got one for ourselves too!

Pumpkin Bread

Ingredients:
15 ounce can of pumpkin
1 cup vegetable oil
2/3 cup water
4 large eggs
3 1/3 cups flour
3 cups sugar
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350. Grease two loaf pans. Beat pumpkin, oil, water and eggs with an electric mixer.
2. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg. Gradually add the flour mixture to the pumpkin mixture, stirring to combine.
3. Pour into the loaf pans and bake for one hour. Let cool on wire racks.
