Bathroom Makeover

So, our bathroom used to be really boring. But, last month, it got a little makeover and is now considerably more cheerful. Here is the view when you first walk in from the hallway:

The shower curtain is from West Elm and the art above the towel rack is from Pottery Barn. I like to call this room a shrine to my favorite artist, Katie Daisy! 

I was so, so excited to upgrade our cheap plastic Ikea thing to a real wicker hamper with a lid. The door next to the hamper goes to our room. It's kind of ridiculous to have multiple entrances to the bathroom in a 800 square foot apartment, but whatever. The baby towels hanging on the door are also from Pottery Barn. 

The cute blue trash can is from World Market. On the other side of the toilet, we have our toilet brush and a toilet paper holder. The little hose attached to the toilet is a diaper sprayer. I used to find that medicine cabinet really strange and I guess it still is, but it's also very handy for storing certain girly items.





The yellow rug is also from World Market and the polka dot hand towel is also from Pottery Barn. The little jar next to the soap dispenser stores both my and Claire's hair elastics.



Sort of inspired by my friend Katie's organizing posts and by the comments we've got about how our apartment is going to seem really cramped with two kids, I thought I would give you guys a glimpse into our cabinets. I firmly believe four people sharing a two-bedroom apartment is totally doable! It's just a matter of being organized. And being organized is actually pretty easy if you don't have too much stuff, which is what we strive for around here.

The picture above is the upper cabinet of our "linen closet" next to the sink. The bottom shelf is our extra towels {we have eight white towels total}. The middle shelf holds a toiletry bin for each of us. Well, Claire and Maggie will have to share, but I think they can work it out. The storage bins are just from Target and the fun little chalkboard labels are from Staples. On the top shelf, we have a first aid bin, an extra toiletries bin so we don't run out of toothpaste or deodorant, and a miscellaneous bin that holds less frequently used items like nail polish and the supplies for cutting Adam's hair.



This is the lower cabinet of the "linen closet." The bottom shelf is toilet paper and paper towels. The upper shelf is extra sheets {two extra for the crib and one extra for both the queen and twin beds} and beach towels.



This is our under-the-sink cabinet. On the left side, we have some more extra towels {bath mats, hooded towels, face cloths, and hand towels}. Underneath that is a box of even less frequently used items like a blow dryer and our travel toiletry bags. On the right side, we keep our disposable diapers and wipes {used when we're traveling or out for the day}. The plunger and scale are also stored in here.



Claire's bath toys are all stored in this contraption hanging in the bathtub.



Our love of paring things down even extends to our shower caddy. House guests are usually quite surprised that we don't use conditioner! Although we now keep a bottle in the "extras" bin for them. We both have naturally oily hair so conditioner just isn't needed. In high school, my hair stylist recommended that I use astringent instead...

The other major thing that's missing is a baby bathtub. We never really used one with Claire. We gave her sponge baths for the first month until her cord fell off and then we tried this yellow foam thing a few times. But she hated it and the foam never really dried properly, which made us worry about mold, so I just took showers with her until she was old enough to handle the regular tub at four months. Maybe we'll do something completely different this time around, but I know we'll definitely want to avoid the big plastic versions!
