The Weekend

My parents and little brother, Scott, are in town! After we last saw my mom and Scott in Vancouver, they flew to Houston. My dad spent the night here on his way back from China and then joined them in Texas. They all visited my grandma in Ottawa before heading to Seattle again.

On their first night here, last Thursday, we got a babysitter for Claire and the rest of us had dinner at Din Tai Fung in Bellevue.

Din Tai Fung

It's a dumpling restaurant that started in Taiwan, but there's also a location in my parents' building in Shanghai. There's only two in the states, Seattle and LA. They don't take reservations and it's crazy busy all the time. Since it's next door to a mall, though, you can go look around and they'll text you when your table is almost ready. The Tesla showroom is always a good time waster!

Our favorites were the roasted garlic green beans and juicy pork dumplings. It was really fun to experience a little bit of my family's life in Shanghai right here in Seattle!

Last Night With Joe

On Friday night, our friend Joe {from the Newman Center at Pitt who's been interning at Adam's company this summer} joined us for pizza on his last night in the city. But he got a job offer {hooray!} so we're very excited about the possibility of Joe and his bride-to-be, Alex, moving here after their graduation and wedding next May.

Seattle Children's Museum

On Saturday morning, we headed downtown to the Seattle Center. It's most famous for the Space Needle, but there's also several museums there. The Pacific Science Center, the Chihuly Glass Museum, the Experience Music Project, and the Seattle Children's Museum. My dad and Scott went to the Experience Music Project to see the Science Fiction Hall of Fame while the rest of us took Claire to the children's museum.

She loved the whole thing, but her favorite part was definitely the little grocery store exhibit. That afternoon, my parents and Scott went to the movies, which is handily located across the street from our apartment. Then we switched and they put Claire to bed so we could see a movie! We all saw "The Way, Way Back" and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Snoqualmie Falls

After church on Sunday, we went to our favorite Snoqualmie Falls. Man, that view never gets old.

We had lunch at the Salish Lodge, the hotel right on top of the falls. {We stayed there for our anniversary last year and it was amazing!} They're really known for the brunch in their main dining room, but we didn't think to make a reservation in time, so we had lunch at the other restaurant on the property. Also very delicious!

Now my family is off on a quick college tour of the Pacific Northwest before they fly back to Shanghai. We would not mind one bit if Scott went to college out nearby! In fact, it may be step one of our master plan to convince everyone we know to move to Seattle...

P.S. We all missed my sister, Allie, over the weekend, but she's busy with her new job as a real-life nurse at one of the best cancer hospitals in the country. Also, did you know that she got to visit Shanghai over Christmas break? I'm more than a little jealous {once Maggie is a year old and we can trick someone into babysitting for a week, we'll be there}. Let's beg her to blog all about it!
