September is such a weird month. Last week felt like fall. It was gray and rainy every day. We brought out some cute new outfits we've been itching to wear.
They have a lot of French and British stores in Shanghai, so my mom finds the most adorable little girl clothes. This outfit is from Marks & Spencer.
We made a batch of pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, which I say are completely acceptable after Labor Day, the unofficial commencement of fall. Baking is hard work, huh, Claire?
And on Saturday, we embarked on one of my favorite fall adventures, the Washington State Fair. Libby, Jon, and their baby girl, Paige, joined us and a great time was had by all.
We had some barbecue for lunch.
Although the lobster corn dogs were pretty hard to resist...
Claire loved walking through the barns and had the time of her life in the petting zoo.
We saw the prize-winning giant pumpkin. Five or six people have alternated winning the giant pumpkin contest over the last two decades. It makes me smile thinking about how there's this little world of competitive pumpkin growing out there!
Also in the agriculture section, each county had a display of all the produce grown in their area.
Claire was so interested in all of the rides and really, really wanted to go on the carousel. But you have to be two years old and at least thirty-six inches tall. That seems completely ridiculous for the carousel, especially if a parent accompanies you! I think we might skip the fair all together next year if she's not tall enough because her little face was just so, so sad.
We ended the afternoon with the traditional state fair scone, which are delicious, but don't exactly hit the spot the way fried oreos do.
Until next year! Well, maybe. Or the year after that.

When we got home, we completed our day of fall fun with a dinner of white bean chicken chili and corn bread muffins. And the aforementioned pumpkin chocolate chip cookies.
But this week we're back in summer mode with sunny skies, high seventies, and plans to meet Claire's best baby friend at the lake on Wednesday.
I hope there's a little less mud involved this time!
The green polka-dot shirt is absolutely adorable!
