Gardening

Did you know that we have a backyard? It's one of my favorite things about the apartment. It's not perfectly groomed by any means, but it's nice to have some green space.

Backyard

We decided to make the most of our yard by planting a teeny, tiny garden. We wanted to start small because:

- We share the yard with our upstairs neighbors, so we didn't want to take up too much space.

- We didn't want to spend very much on the endeavor, just in case it doesn't turn out.

I gathered all my gardening info from Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholomew. We were able to plant a ton of vegetables in an eight foot square space!

Garden Plan

We bought our soil, seeds, fertilizer, tomato cages and watering can at Lowe's. We found little shovels and gardening gloves in the dollar section at Target. The bricks that serve as the garden border were found stacked in a corner of the yard. All the supplies came to about $40.

I will keep you posted on how it all works out!

P.S. We actually have a cute little back porch too. But it's buried under the gigantic boxes our new bookshelves came in. I promise I will post a picture at a later date! In the meantime, here's a shot of our new bookshelves.

New Bookshelves

I'm in love.
