Adam's parents and his little sister, Katie, flew up from Houston for Thanksgiving. His older brother, Alex, and Alex's wife, Kate, drove over from Indiana. Another older brother, Steve and his wife, Elizabeth, also live here in Pittsburgh. We got to have Thanksgiving dinner at our apartment simply because we have a dishwasher!
We decided on the menu with Steve and Elizabeth, cooking half at each apartment.
Main Course
Turkey
Gravy
Cranberry Sauce
Carbs
Stuffing
Mashed Potatoes
Sweet Potato Casserole
Veggies
Peas
Broccoli with Cheese Sauce
Dessert
Apple Pie
Pecan Pie
Pumpkin Pie
There was no way all nine attendees were going to fit around our tiny kitchen table. Instead, we used it to set out all the fixins' buffet style.
We found a folding banquet table at Target {to the tune of $30} and set it up in the living room, pushing our couch up against the wall.
We tried to disguise the plastic table with a white tablecloth {actually a $10 Tar-Jay sheet}. The festive napkins were a gift from our good friend {and Allie's roommate} Kailin's mom. Thanks so much, Mrs. Bennett!
The turkey visors are from last year, a $1 a piece find at Michael's. Obviously, we force everyone to wear them for the annual pre-digging-in picture.
The other decorations came from some fall-themed card stock - the leaves strewn across the table, a banner over the mantel and a little 'thankful turkey' craft we did in Sunday School. The week preceding Thanksgiving, I just did lots of cutting during my nightly tv watching.
One day, we will have an actual dining room, a big table and matching chairs. And maybe, ya know, nine place settings of matching dishes. But for now, we are just glad to spend Thanksgiving with the people we're most thankful for!
