A Good Night

Stranded at the Airport

We are visiting our family down south for the next few weeks. We headed to the airport on Friday afternoon. The hardest part of flying with a baby is all the extra stuff! We had two suitcases, a car seat, a stroller, a pack-n-play, a backpack and a diaper bag. Luckily, you're allowed to check three baby items for free and we have a airline credit card that gives us two free checked bags.

When we got to the gate, the airline representative asked for some volunteers to take the next flight, which would get in just one hour later. The rewards were a $300 travel voucher per person and taking a direct flight instead of connecting. $600 and once less flight with a baby? You better believe we raced to that desk!

Well, after our original flight departed, the airline representative told us that he wasn't able to get us on that later flight after all, so we'd have to take the 6:00 am flight in the morning. I was really bummed. The next day was my birthday and I was so looking forward to sleeping in a little. To make matters worse, our luggage was already on the original plane, so we had no change of clothes and literally three diapers.

Then, I reminded myself, with Adam's help of course, "Hey! There's absolutely no reason to be upset about this!" The airline put us up in the hotel connected to the airport, which was way fancier than the hotels we usually stay in. We still got to take a direct flight. Adam even talked to the representative into giving us an extra $50 per person for the added inconvenience. I don't know about you, but I can take a lot of inconvenience for $700.

We splurged by renting a funny movie, This Means War, and ordering some cheesecake from room service. And, you know what, it turned into a really good night.

The next morning, Claire gave me the best birthday present I could have hoped for. Besides waking up to eat during take-off and landing, that sweet girl didn't make a peep the whole flight.

  1. I didn't know you were allowed to check three baby items, that is really convenient! We're going to a wedding in Denver in September. (I can't begin to imagine how big Michael will be by then!)

    Enjoy your visit. :)
