Little Projects

I'm a big fan of the home design blog, Young House Love. If you're also a reader, I'm pretty sure you've already picked up on that. So, I was super pumped for their book signing in Seattle last Friday and got all my chores done ahead of my time so we'd be ready to go. When Friday rolled around, though, Claire was still sick and Adam was sick too! I unfortunately didn't make it to the book signing, but I had some free time during the rest of the family's long naps to work on some little projects that have been on the back burner for a while. 

In the laundry room, I made a curtain to hide the water heater, ironing board, and such. It was such a quick project! I just hemmed all four sides of my fabric and attached the curtain to a tension rod with ring clips, which not only make for an easy-peasy project but are also safer for little kids because they can't hang on the curtain {they'll just pull it down instead}. Yes, I did switch to powder detergent just so I could store it all my laundry supplies in mason jars! And the art above the shelf was a Christmas gift from Adam's mom. 

I also repainted the chalkboard menu in the kitchen. It used to be a pale green, but I like the basic black so much more. Besides the color choice, I also repainted it because I forgot to "season" the chalkboard. If you don't rub the whole surface with chalk before writing on it for the first time, you might not be able to completely erase those first words, which is exactly what happened in my case.



Not a great picture, but I finally painted the randomly spaced outlet in the dining room to match the wall. It blends in so much better than it used to! Hopefully, it will be camouflaged even more when we eventually find a bible stand and get that painting into a larger frame.
