In My Diaper Bag

This is my diaper bag.

Diaper Bag

Diaper Bag

It's seen better days, but I love it and I'm planning to buy another before Maggie arrives.

I like that it doesn't scream "diaper bag" so I can use it as my purse most of the time, but that it's also simple enough so Adam doesn't feel weird carrying it when need be. I like that you can wear it messenger-style {which is usually more comfortable when wrangling a baby} or over-the-shoulder {because the cross-body thing doesn't exactly work with the Ergo}. If you don't feel like wearing it all, it has built-in straps that attach to your stroller handle. Mostly, I really like all the pockets!

I was cleaning it out the other day {the impetus: Claire threw up on it} and decided it would be fun to take pictures of everything I manage to cram in there.

Diaper Bag

In one of the zippered pockets on the outside, I stash some snacks for Claire.

In the other zippered pocket, I keep some reusable produce bags and lots of other random stuff. A brush, disposable kids cutlery, tissues, hand sanitizer, a pen, stain remover, lotion, chap stick, floss, a measuring tape, bandages, and sunscreen. Just you know, everything I might possibly every need.

There's another little pocket between those two, where I keep Claire's sunglasses and my headphones. For some reason I have a pacifier in there too, even though Claire hasn't used one for about a year. In the open pockets attached to the bigger zippered ones, I keep my keys and phone. Not super safe, I know, but we don't exactly live in a high-crime area and this way I can always find them!

Diaper Bag

In the main section of the bag, there's four more pockets, two on each side. On one side, I keep my wallet and my coupon holder.

And on the other side, I keep some reusable shopping bags and umbrellas. Not sure why I carry around Adam's umbrella all the time? When we're traveling or out somewhere fun, I usually cram my camera into the main section too.

 Diaper Bag

The big zippered pocket on the back of the bag is for diapering supplies. A changing pad, diapers, wipes, a wet bag with a change of clothes, a burp cloth, and a sun hat that Claire never keeps on for more than ten seconds.

Not gonna lie, this bag gets kinda heavy. When we're going out for a quick trip {or the rare occasions when I'm not with Claire!} I throw the essentials into my real purse. I also store a few things in another bag in the trunk, like disposable bibs/placemats and carsickness supplies. I'm definitely going to have to pare things down when I'm schlepping around two kids' stuff, although I guess Claire will need less and less as times goes on.

Are you also devoted to a particular diaper bag? And are you a diaper bag packrat like me or more of a minimalist?

  1. I used to be a packrat until I got pregnant and then became a minimalist pretty quickly. These days its two diapers, wipes, and whatever may be essential to the particular trip--sunscreen or water or Michael's sandals if I don't put them on before we leave. Living on the edge over here. :)

  2. I'm more of a minimalist -- Love my SkipHop dash messenger bag. We have a gender neutral print that Eric likes too. It's held up really well. These days we're down to a SkipHop critter back pack for quick errands because Evie likes to carry it to the car and it's more her size...but it doesn't have all the pockets that I like for a more organized day trip.

Did you make the wet bag and/or burp cloth? They're both adorable! Great fabrics!

  3. I love carrying around a backpack instead of a traditional diaper bag. It can be used with or without an ergo easily and it's a back saver. You can put a lot in it if necessary too (including a cooler bag when needed). If I'm running a quick errand I tend to use my "purse" which is a timbuk2 messenger bag and put wipes, diapers, and snacks in there.

  4. Like any true mom, I have a minor obsession with diaper bags. I own and love the Skip Hop Studio and its been so good to me. It's also held up really well, and looks great for fancy occasions, like a wedding. I've been eyeing the versa for a cross body option, but I actually ordered it and was so overwhelmed by its size! I've become a minimalist, but I like to know I have room for the world for when I need it. I've also been eyeing a backpack. I'm not ultra crazy about Vera Bradley in general, but I like this one pattern (plum crazy)

    2. That's pricey, but there have been times where I felt having a backpack would be the best option of all, and of course, I don't want one that screams utility.
