Laundry Room and Hallway Updates

We've been plugging away at our apartment to-do list lately. First up, building a shelf in the laundry room!

This was a super easy project. We had some plywood cut to size at Home Depot, painted it white, and anchored everything to the wall. Adam could describe it all much better than me, but basically it's just two small pieces of wood screwed into the wall, with the actual shelf resting on top.

Here's a close-up. Up there, we have an extra hamper {because the one we got for the bathroom came in a set of two} and the beverage tub we used for Claire's birthday party. Both are filled with really random items, like scrap wood and tissue paper pom-poms. I promise I'm really not that organized, just good at hiding things! Oh, and the thing in the middle is a roll of butcher paper from Ikea.

Just for fun, I'll show you around the rest of the room, which is right off the kitchen. We've got a shelf for detergent. Old plastic grocery sacks are stored in that blue shoe bag. And the laundry basket on the floor pretty much always has some clothes to put away.

I made the curtain a few months ago to hide our water heater. It's just held up with a tension rod and ring clips.

Next to the water heater, we keep the drying rack, ironing board, and mop.

Well, that's pretty much the end of our tour. But, we also added some art in the hallway, specifically where it branches off to the nursery.

On one side, we had a mirror and the little name plaque my sister made for Claire's crib in the NICU.

And now the other side has some colorful art. The top frame displays all of Claire's monthly pictures. The yellow sunshine print is from my favorite Rifle Paper Co. in a Target clearance rack frame. Allie {who is also Claire's godmother} gave her the St. Clare icon on the left as a baptism day present. I really wanted a St. Margaret of Scotland one to match, but the company didn't make them. So I requested her on their Facebook page and she was up on the website within a week!

While we're here, I guess I'll show you our hall closet. We don't actually keep coats in here {we have hooks in the living room for that}.

On the door, we keep bags/purses and the baby carrier.

In the closet itself, we keep our stroller and vacuum. I love, love, love how compact our stroller is! We used to have the basic Graco travel system and it just barely fit in here. Oh, and the thing behind the stroller is the stand for our keyboard, which lives under the couch.

On the top shelf of the closet, we have paint and more bags {backpacks and a laptop bag}. The silver thing hanging next to our bike helmets is DampRid, a handy way to absorb moisture. I'm sure anyone who's lived in an apartment in a humid climate knows how quickly mold can become a problem. Those things make a big difference!

    1. I just picked it up the last time I was at Ikea to use for craft projects when Claire's a bit older. She's not quite past the eating crayons stage yet though!

  2. Um, I have five DampRid bags hanging in my room right now. This is an issue!
