A Nursery For Two

The nursery is all ready to be shared by two little girls! Well, that won't actually happen until March, when Claire turns two and is old enough for the twin bed and Maggie is six months and old enough to sleep through the night. But we like to be prepared. Here's the view of the nursery from the hallway:

This is the big girl side of the room. We moved Claire's initial here from over the crib and added two frames to the gallery wall. One is for Maggie's baby picture and the other is for a portrait of Saint Margaret, once I track one down.

Under the twin bed, we store the swing, doorway jumper, nursing pillow, air mattresses, and my beloved American Girl doll. I guess they'll get to fight over her someday? We don't have an exersaucer or bumbo due to space constraints and have been just fine without them.

We moved the fabric hoops from above the twin bed to the opposite side of the window.

The cloth diapers, which were currently in the wash at the taking of this photo, are stored in the top dresser drawer. The spray bottle next to the changing pad is for misting the cloth wipes with water. And the little basket behind it holds pacifiers and diaper rash cream.

Then Claire and Maggie each get a drawer for their clothing.

This is the little girl side of the room. Maggie's initial now occupies the space above the crib. The cardboard letters are from JoAnn's and the little fabric flowers are actually called yoyo's. Super easy to make!

It's hard to see, but under the little yellow table {which holds the sound machine and humidifier} is a basket storing extra car seat and stroller supplies, like these blankets.

After searching high and low, I discovered that Pottery Barn sells baskets that are the perfect dimensions for under our Ikea crib. One basket holds puzzles, the only toys that aren't kept in the main living area. Another basket holds some matching outfits for next summer that I just couldn't resist {all from places where you can return anytime, just in case the sizing doesn't work out}.

Behind the door, we hung a shoe organizer to store everything that used to be in Maggie's dresser drawer - blankets, burp cloths, bibs, hats, socks, etc. I also strung a ribbon between two command hooks to hold Claire's surprisingly large collection of bows.

Our last stop is the closet. The bag hanging off the door knob is for dirty cloth diapers.

Inside, we hang all of Claire's dresses, shirts, and jackets. The pack-n-play is kept up on the shelf.

And then we have lots and lots of clothes storage. Each girl gets a box of sentimental items and then there's a box of clothing for every size from 0 to 24 months. Plus, a box of maternity clothes and a misc. container of extra shoes, socks, hats, swim diapers, etc.

The activity gym is stuffed behind the storage containers and my pump just got shoved in there for now.

I'm not sure what we would have done if Maggie was {or is??} a boy. Probably invest in lots of those vacuum storage bags. Claire should be moving into 18-24 month clothing this fall/winter and will probably be wearing 2T in the spring/summer, which will work out perfectly with our plan to move to a bigger place next summer!
