Bedroom Art

There's this weirdly-placed window over Adam's bedside table that's always bugged me. It looked like this:

That is, until I finally got around to disguising it! I bought two 24x48 canvases at Michael's for $15 each. After perusing some tutorials on Pinterest, I tried to paint some abstract art.

Yikes! A few coats of white paint later, I had a clean slate again. This time, I used five shades of pale blues and greens to paint simple stripes.

Ahh, much better. My truly terrible first effort actually ended up being a blessing because those extra coats of white paint really helped stop the light from the now-hidden window from shining through. Oh, and the little mirror is a Target clearance rack find.

My side of the bed, which will be occupied by a pack-n-play in just a few months. Don't you love our view of the parking lot?

Our handmade desk! I'd still like to get a new desk chair at some point, but then I'll call the room officially done. Our desk only holds the bare minimum {computer, printer, pencil cup, letter sorter, magazine file with blank paper} so we keep the rest of the office and craft supplies in the bottom two drawers of our nightstands. The top drawer of our nightstands is devoted to actual nightstand-type things {chargers, bibles, flashlights, etc}. We also have two under-bed boxes for gift wrap and fabric.

More recent additions to the room are the mirror on the door the bathroom and those plates to it's right. I've had and loved the plates for a while but never actually used them, so onto the wall they went!

I think I'll continue my demonstration of how being organized is mostly just not having too much stuff and raiding the storage container section at Target, by showing you the closet. All the clothes we own are what you see right here. Well, with the exception of the clean clothes that have being sitting, folded, in the laundry basket since Wednesday. I also keep a box of maternity clothes in the nursery closest, although technically that box is filled with non-maternity summer clothes right now.

We each get two drawers of the dresser for pajamas, swim suits, socks and the like. One of the boxes sitting on top of the dresser holds my small collection of jewelry. The other has sunglasses, goggles, cuff links, a tie clip, etc.

It's hard to tell, but the boxes on the shelf above the dresser are labeled - tools, cords, manuals, knit + sew, paint, and winter {for scarves, hats, and gloves.} The bag sitting next to them is my sewing machine.

And my love-affair with storage containers continues. Three boxes filled with rarely-used shoes and three boxes for various sentimental items.

The rest of our shoes, except for the one pair each that are kept by the front door.

P.S. For our next project, we are putting together a kid's picnic table for the balcony! We ordered this unfinished version and I can't decide what color to paint it. My mind automatically jumped to yellow, my go-to furniture color, but I'm also kind of thinking about an emerald/kelly green?

  1. The picnic table green sounds precious! I am amazed all your lovely matching storage boxes. My dream. They are pricey to commit to buying what I need, so one day, sometime, ten years from now. It all looks lovely. Always does.

  2. So, I was thinking about your picnic table in the shower...where all good thinking is done. I really like the idea of a green table, butttt I was also thinking that when you own a house in the future, it will probably go in the yard and green on green grass may not be ideal. However, you're a painter and do it frequently, so repainting wouldnt be a big deal to you. But, if you didn't want to repaint, I bet a yellow or teal blue would look adorable and standout in an eventual yard. That being said too, kids get things really messy, so you may feel like repainting it by the time you own a house. Basically, my mind is all over the place, but those were my thoughts...however pinball machiney.
