The Weekend

Friday was the Feast of Saint Francis, Adam's patron saint! I want to slowly incorporate celebrating more of the liturgical year into our family life. We've started with Claire's baptism day and name day, so the next logical step seemed to be celebrating our own. But Adam and I aren't named after saints {well, my middle name is Margaret, but I'll let Maggie have that day to herself} so we're going to go with our confirmation saints instead.

We couldn't make it to Mass or the blessing of the animals that morning because of a conflicting prenatal appointment. Next year! But we did have Italian food for dinner. The Pioneer Woman's chicken piccata never disappoints.

Adam's Feast Day

Claire was a much bigger fan of the dark chocolate gelato we had for dessert!

After dinner, we read {well, more like paraphrased and looked at the pictures} this book about St. Francis' life in Assisi.

Adam's Feast Day

On Saturday, Adam helped some friends move. Given that I'm nine months pregnant and come with a toddler in tow, I wouldn't have been that helpful. Instead, I finally updated my recipe binder, one of the last things on my to-do list before Maggie arrives. I've been putting it off for several months and after all that, it only took one nap time to get done.

Date Night

That night, we snagged a babysitter and went on a date! We had dinner at one of our favorite local restaurants and then went to a concert in Seattle. A choral concert of "chants and songs in praise of Mary." Totally a normal date night for twenty-four year olds, right?

On Sunday morning, we took Claire to the pumpkin patch! Just because I think she's the cutest, here is a picture from last year's excursion:

And one year later:

Pumpkin Patch

She was in a weird mood the whole time and would burst into tears whenever she had to walk near hay or through the pumpkin vines. So, I guess she's a city girl at heart?

Here's a funny video of her favorite pumpkin patch activity:

Because we went to the pumpkin patch in the morning, we went to the 5:00 Mass that night. We almost always go to the 9:00 Mass and since Claire isn't hungry or tired, she's reasonably well-behaved. So then we start getting over-confident in her Mass behavior and think about venturing to other times. Always a bad idea! The evening Mass is the Life Teen one, which isn't our favorite for numerous reasons, but mostly just for how unnecessarily long it is. Claire held it together until after communion, but then they had so, so many announcements followed by the world's longest praise & worship song. Oh, gosh. Never again. But at least we looked pretty cute!

Ready for Church

Ready for Church

Well, if you ignore my super awkward head-tilt. Maybe too much color going on, but as I always say, why not draw more attention to yourself when you're thirty-seven weeks pregnant? I'm sure you don't care, but since I'm going to join the "what I wore Sunday" bandwagon even though I'm two days late, here are the outfit deets:

My dress: Motherhood
My sweater: Boden
My shoes: Clark's

Claire's jumper and onesie: Carter's
Claire's shoes: Stride Rite

Eating Chili

When we finally made it home, we had our favorite fall dinner of southwest chili and caramel apple pie. Yum!

  1. Oh my goodness, you're both way too cute! I think the bright colors totally work with each other - it's really only 2 major colors, I'm a fan :) And Cecilia has that same jumper set, although hers is huge on her so I put it away for a few months... I love it!
