A Newborn's Life

Hey guys! It's Claire here. Now that I've been home with my mom and dad for almost two weeks, we've started to settle into a routine. Here's what my day usually looks like.

Untitled

2:00 am - I wake up really, really hungry and cry to let my parents know they need to fix this situation. My dad stumbles out of bed and feeds me a bottle with his eyes half-closed, while my mom sleeps through the whole thing.

5:00 am - Another feeding, this time with my mom on duty. But, I would much rather keep sleeping. My mom takes off all my clothes to wake me up. How rude! When I'm really sleepy, I like to play this game where I absolutely refuse to open my mouth. Mom has to force my jaw open before I'll take a bottle.

8:00 am - I wake up to see that my mom and dad's bed is made. I can hear them eating breakfast in the kitchen and let them know that I'd like my breakfast now too, please. After I eat, we say morning prayer together. I sit in my swing, which my parents move into the bathroom, while Dad takes a shower and Mom does her hair. I get ready for the day, too. Mom changes me into one of my cuter outfits and sticks a bow to my head. Dad has to leave for school now, so it's just us girls hanging out at home.

11:00 am - The last thing I remember, Mom was holding me while she checked her email, so I'm a little confused when I wake up in bed. I look around and find my mom putting away laundry. We head to the couch for another feeding. Since I started life with a stay in the NICU, I mostly drink my mom's milk from a bottle, but we're slowly learning how to nurse. It's hard work! The extra cuddle time is worth it though. At least I don't bite Mom as much I used to. She didn't seem to like that very much...

After I eat, Mom changes my diaper and puts me in my swing while she pumps more milk and eats her lunch too. I really like how my swing vibrates. Oh, the life of a baby, relaxing in a vibrating massage chair all day. Sometimes it puts me right to sleep, but now I try my hardest to stay awake so I can play with Mom. We like to make faces in the mirror together. It's so funny! I also like it when she sings to me and helps me dance to the music.

2:00 pm - All that singing and dancing must have put me to sleep, because I find myself back in bed again. This time, it looks like Mom's writing thank you notes. As we're finishing up another feeding, my dad comes home from school. He holds me while he does his "homework" on the computer. Since I'm so little, I only get to leave the house for church and doctor visits. But Mom needs to get out more than that or she'll go crazy! So, Dad hangs out with me while Mom runs an errand. When she gets home, Mom puts dinner in the oven and makes Dad a sandwich for lunch tomorrow.

5:00 pm - Another feeding. Sometimes it seems like all I do is eat, you know? I sit in my swing some more while my mom and dad eat dinner. We all say evening prayer together and then it's time for my bath. I really don't see why I have to take a bath every night if I'm not even allowed outside, but Mom and Dad think it's important to start a bedtime routine. Like I have a bedtime!

8:00 pm - After I eat again, we read a story and say night prayer. Mom and Dad put me in bed and turn on my favorite white noise CD. There's just something about the sound of a vacuum, huh? I decide to be nice and go to sleep so my parents can have some grown-up time.

11:00 pm - One last feeding and then it's bedtime for everyone. Until 2:00 am, at least!
