Around the House

The living room has seen a lot of changes lately!

First, my parents gave us a new tv stand as an early Christmas gift {because Target was having an awesome furniture sale around Thanksgiving}. It's so much more spacious than our previous one. The board games aren't precariously stacked to the brim anymore! I'm hoping we can eventually store kid art supplies and Play Doh in there too.

One day I will get around to frosting the glass doors of the cabinet so our board game collection blends in better. The mirror above the tv is also new and also from Target! It reminds me of something Ballard Designs would sell for two or three times the price.

I actually made the painting above the mantel, thanks to this tutorial. It just took a 24x36 canvas, eight shades of purple/blue/green/yellow craft paint, a spackle knife, and an hour of time.

The lamps got new burlap shades {from Target, where else?} because the previous black shades just made for too much dark stuff in the room. I also painted the key in the frame arrangement oil-rubbed bronze. It used to be natural wood, then silver. I'm not completely in love with the ORB finish and kinda want to just paint it white. That is, if I can convince Adam that the third time's the charm. Thoughts?

We are in the process of installing covers on our baseboard heaters to avoid curious little fingers getting burned. In the nursery, we realized that having the twin bed right in front of the heater was a fire safety issue, so we swapped the bed and dresser.

Something about the new arrangement isn't quite as cute, but it does get major bonus points for giving the rocking chair more space. We used to have to move it out to the middle of the room all the time, but now it can just say in one spot. And I guess the fact that the bedding can no longer catch on fire is pretty nice too.

P.S. Sorry the lighting in these pictures is so terrible! The only time we don't have toys strewn about the place is in the evening and it gets dark at 4:00 pm here, so...
