House Envy

Life is pretty darn good over here and I honestly have nothing at all to complain about, but I have found myself coming down with a serious case of house envy. You see, most of our high school friends are homeowners already thanks to the awesome Texas real estate prices. Most of our new friends here in Seattle also have an abode to call their own because they're a few years older than us and are therefore passed the saving up period we're in now.

Housing prices here are crazy, so we'll be in that savings period for quite a while, although hopefully we can rent a home in the next couple years. Focusing on the blessings of not having a mortgage sounds like a better plan than just pouting about it, right? There are plenty of things I love about our 800 square feet, but today I'm feeling lots of gratitude for the fact that I can vacuum the entire place without moving the plug.

Oh, strategically-placed outlet in the hallway, I will miss you dearly one day.

  1. Haha I love my house and most days I'm the happiest girl in the world living there, but every time you clean one bathroom, I have to clean three. I tell myself it's worth it for the ability to paint walls and build equity and not outgrow our house too soon, but three toilets, three showers/baths, and five bathroom sinks is a real pain!

It's funny... in Houston, rental prices have skyrocketed in the last couple years. Our minimum mortgage payment is about 30% of what our old apartment costs now!

Oh, and yesterday our garage door opener broke. Jeff spent hours fixing it, and it worked. Then this morning, broken again. Lovely. At least you don't have to deal with stuff like that!

  2. Hilarious! Apartment Gratitude Posts. We should start a series. I could add getting my exercise and laundry accomplished at the same time. :-)

  3. Also, you have a Dyson. So now you're giving everyone appliance-envy!

    1. That was actually a wedding gift! Between my junior and senior years Pitt, I interned at the Houston Symphony in their fundraising department. On my last day {which was coincidentally two days before our wedding} they all chipped in and surprised me with it. I was so taken back by their generosity. I still can't believe our fanciest wedding present was from coworkers that I only knew for two months!
