In mid-October, we went on a field trip with Claire's preschool to the pumpkin patch. I gave myself a big pat on the back for taking all three girls by myself and successfully managing to get them to look at the camera for these pictures.
The following week was the preschool costume party. Maggie, Betsy, and I got to tag along! The kids decorated treat bags, made their own personal pizzas, had story time, showed off their costumes for the class, and did a little practice trick-or-treating.
The next day was a preschool pumpkin carving night. I accompanied Claire while Maggie stayed home with Adam and got to carve her pumpkin after they put Betsy to bed. Here they are testing out their jack-o-lanterns at home.
Finally, the big day arrived. We made a very easy "spooky" dinner before trick-or-treating.
A skeleton veggie platter.
Halloweenie mummies. (The classic hot dogs + crescent rolls + cheddar cheese.)
Apple mummies and monster mouths. Just add mini chocolate chips, peanut butter, and slivered almonds!
Claire and Maggie thought it was so much fun and it didn't take anymore time than I would usually spend making dinner which, trust me, is really not a lot.
I wanted some pictures of us in our costumes, but it was already dark outside at 6:00 pm, so we had to take them in the playroom - the brightest room in the house. Claire and Maggie came up with this idea immediately after Halloween last year and never wavered. They were butterflies, Betsy was a caterpillar, and we were bug catchers. All our costume supplies were easily found on Amazon.
We went trick-or-treating to about a dozen houses in our neighborhood and then came home to pass out candy for a bit before putting the girls to bed. So thankful that Betsy took a really long afternoon nap that day and therefore was in a great mood the whole evening!
The ghosts of Halloweens past. I wonder how much longer we'll be able to keep up the themed family costumes before our kids want to do their own thing? Yesterday, I asked Claire if she had any ideas for next year already, but this time she said she's going to a need a while to think about it!
