The Rest of Winter Break

We drove from Pittsburgh to Texas for Christmas. That's over twenty hours in the car, each way! But we are so glad we did it. It was really nice to have a car while we were visiting family {especially since we were also going to a wedding in Dallas} and we saved several hundred bucks over flying. We just kept ourselves entertained listening to audio books and time flew by pretty quickly.

On our way to Houston, we stopped for lunch with Adam's paternal grandfather, who lives outside New Orleans. We hadn't seen him since our last Houston to Pittsburgh road trip right after our wedding, so it was really nice to catch up.

While we were in Houston, we spent lots of time playing board games with our families.

We made an excursion to Home Goods. Don't you just love the giant ceramic paintbrush?

We got to spend some much-needed time with best friends. Miss you already, Arli and Jessica!

Best Friend Breakfast

We celebrated Scott's birthday a little early with a delicious meal at Benihana.

We visited our favorite Tex-Mex and barbecue joints. And on our way to Dallas, we stopped for lunch at In-N-Out. We are big fans of Five Guys {it's our favorite place for a cheap meal, after Chick-fil-A} so we were very curious to try In-N-Out.

The place was seriously packed. The line was out the door! Adam was already skeptical.

Skeptical of In-N-Out

The menu is pretty simple, but apparently there's a whole secret menu out there. We heard lots of people asking for "animal fries", whatever those are.

In our opinion, the burgers were really good {especially the homemade buns} but we like how Five Guys offers unlimited veggie toppings. And In-N-Out's fries just didn't compare.

On the drive from Dallas to Pittsburgh, it was snowy and the roads were definitely worse. Adam did most of the driving, but I somehow still convinced him to stop at TWO Pottery Barn Outlets on the way back.

A trip to the Pottery Barn outlet!

That guy's a keeper, for sure.

  1. That's the mirror I have from HomeGoods! Actually, that's probably the HomeGoods I go to too! And now that I think about it... judging by the red clearance sticker, that might be the mirror that I returned to HomeGoods and exchanged for my current mirror after finding out that it had a tiny crack in the glass! Whoa, small world. :)

We feel exactly the same way about Five Guys/In n Out - better burgers at In n Out, better fries at Five Guys.

Also... I'm totally jealous because I've always wanted to go to a Pottery Barn outlet, and I never have. Did you buy anything?

    1. I thought of you when I saw that mirror! It very well could be the same one. Yep, there's just a small crack in one corner. But I actually painted over the glass with chalkboard paint, so you can't even tell. Pictures to come this week!

I was hoping there would be Christmas decor at the PB outlets, but it was pretty much cleared out by the time we were there (on January 1st and 2nd). We ended up getting some new dishes, though! The caterer's collection. The sets of 12 place settings were about 20% cheaper than at the regular store, so it was definitely worth the stop.
